Patna:Delhi police gave the permission for arms licence to the murder accused son of suspended JD(U) lawmaker Manorama Devi, Rocky, without getting his mandatory background check done in his hometown, said Gaya SSP Garima Malik on Thursday.

Deputy police commissioner (licencing) Subhasish Chaudhary said Rocky, who allegedly killed 19-year-old Aditya Sachdeva for daring to overtake his vehicle on Saturday, cited life threat from Maoists apart from being a National Rifles Association of India certified shooter to get the licence.

"He also produced papers to the effect that he is a resident of Chatra district in Jharkhand, which is dominated by Maoists," he said. Chaudhary said Rocky was issued an all-India arms licence valid from 2013-2018.

Malik said they were yet to get documents related to licence verification from Delhi police.

"There was never any residential verification conducted in Gaya." District magistrates issue arms licences in Bihar while Union home ministry issues all-India arms licences.
