CM Akhilesh Yadav: We have water in dams, need tankers to supply it to villages

�Lucknow : Amid a political slugfest between the Samajwadi Party and BJP over the water crisis in Uttar Pradesh, especially in drought-hit Bundelkhand region, Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav on Saturday met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Delhi.

Yadav discussed with the prime minister the drought and water-scarcity situation that has badly hit the state and apprised him about the work done by his government for farmers and drought affected areas.

Akhilesh Yadav has demanded Rs 10,600 crore assistance from Centre to tackle the drought situation. On being asked about why is he not allowing water trains to supply water, he replied that there is water in dams, we need to transport the water through tankers as trains cannot go in deep inside the villages.

UP chief secretary Alok Ranjan has accompanied him.

PM Modi tweeted, that he had a productive meeting with UP CM on the drought situation in the state.

Noteworthy, PM Modi will meet the Chief Ministers of Maharashtra and Karnataka also to discuss water crisis issue and review drought situation in the states.

The Chief Ministers of the drought-hit states will meet the Prime Minister separately on Saturday. Ministers and officials of the concerned Ministries will be present at the meeting.

Apart from taking stock of the situation, Prime Minister Modi will also review steps taken by the states to address drought-related problems.

He will also seek details of progress of relief work in the meeting with the Chief Ministers so that the issue could be resolved at the earliest.
