Mumbai: Film director Ram Gopal Varma's Sarkar franchise has always been known for its ensemble cast. Sarkar 2 was a casting coup since it revolved around the Bachchans completely. However, the new poster of Sarkar 3 reveals that actors have been cast on the basis of how much they look their parts rather than the relations they share with each other off screen.
The tagline of the poster says, 'Angrier Than Ever.' The poster effectively showcases a range of angry moods through its diverse actors. Amitabh Bachchan dominates the frame with his eminent presence. His expression is the most understated. Despite the underplay, he manages to make quite a mark, because he is the axis mundi and that his character is already familiar to the audience.
Yami Gautam also makes a striking appearance on the poster. Her enraged face stands in contrast with that of Amitabh as her loquacious eyes speak volumes of the heated turmoil within. The fact that she has mostly been seen in lighthearted roles adds to the shock element of the poster.
Manoj Bajpayee is the least recognizable actor in the poster because of his drastic transformation into his character. His face does not give out his anger and skillfully masks it with popping eyes, old-school spectacles and a borderline comical expression. Also, he holds what is a leitmotif in the Sarkar franchise an ivory white tea cup and saucer.
Jackie Shroff looks his stylish best, even in an irate mugshot. His attire looks different from the rest of the cast which hints that he may be an outsider. Amit Sadh looks quite like Abhishek Bachchan's part from the last two films as he stares fiercely into the viewers' eyes, water dripping from his messy hair. Also, the colour red, which symbolises anger, has been smartly used to chalk out the '3' in Sarkar 3 and the release date on the poster.
Sarkar 3 also stars Ronit Roy and is slated to release on 7 April.
