Srinagar: Four militants were killed in a retaliatory firing by the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) on Monday as they tries to attack a camp at Sumbal in Bandipora district of Jammu and Kashmir.
The security indulged in heavy firing even as police reinforcement was rushed to the scene of gun battle, the official said. "Four militants were killed in the retaliatory firing and the suicide attack was foiled," he said.
The heavily armed militants tried to 45th Battalion CRPF at Sumbal around 4:10 am by opening fire at the sentry post, a police official said.
A large cache of arms and ammunition was is also recovered from the slain militants. The identity of the slain militants is yet to be disclosed.
Confirming the incident, Jammu and Kashmir DGP SP Vaid said, "Four terrorists have been gunned down after they attempt to attack 45 Battalion CRPF at Sumbal".
