UP ATS In An Exchange Of Fire With Suspected Terrorists In Thakurganj, Encounter Underway

LUCKNOW: In an undergoing operation in Uttar Pradesh's capital city of Lucknow, in which the Uttar Pradesh's Anti-Terrorist Squad has gunned down one suspected terrorist in Thakurganj locality, identified as Mohammed Saiful. A tense stand-off is currently on with the ATS and security forces surrounding the spot for the last four hours.

The Additional Director General of Uttar Pradesh Police Daljit Chaudhry said,"we are unable to link the suspect to any organization yet," but confirms that his name is "Mohammed Saiful".


We are trying to arrest him alive...but can't say say anything more on the operation, the ADG adds.


With Uttar Pradesh in the middle of an extreamly unstable Assembly elections, the security forces are expecting the worst and have prepared themselves to tackle all situations that may arise from this encounter.An explosion too has been reported at the spot.


The suspect has been boxed in, and the operation is limited in its scope and efforts are on to nabbing the the suspect alive. Also, National Security Guard on standby, and could move to Lucknow to assist the ATS.

Wasim Arun IG, ATS, said "we are not in a hurry to finish the operation, nut the team is using using chilli pepper bomb in an effort to catch the suspect alive".


Uttar Pradesh police received inputs today morning regarding possible terror suspects hiding in the state. Following the inputs one team was sent to Kanpur while the other team arrived in Lucknow. The Kanpur team made an arrest in the matter.




The incident came hours after a blast was reported on a Bhopal - Ujjain train in which at least eight people were injured. Madhaya Pradesh's DIG has confirmed that the bast was a terror attack, and five people have already been arrested in the matter in the state.

A UP based ISIS module carried out the train blast in the morning.Both, the Kanpur and the one involved in the Lucknow operation, are suspected to have links to the blast.
 


However, the Union Home Ministery is keeping a close watch on the situation and are in touch with the UP police and intelligence agencies. Home Secretary Rajiv Mehrish hs brefied Ubion Home Minister Rajnath singh about the development in Lucknow.


According to MHA sources, Uttar Pradesh received a tip off regarding the suspect from authorities in southern state.

Sources say more terrorist suspects could be hiding in the state.Search operations are still on in Luckow's Thakurganj area..
