Mahoba:�A 55-year-old�farmer in drought-hit Bundelkhand region's Mahoba district was arrested for allegedly stealing water from Urmil dam.

According to media reports, Hira Lal Yadav allegedly damaged a valve of the Urmil dam to divert water to his fields through a small canal.

Mahoba SP Gaurav Singh said that a complaint was filed againt the 55-year-old farmer by Joint engineer of Mahoba Jal Sansthan for allegedly damaging a valve of the pipeline and storing water for his fields.

Meanwhile, the farmer's family said that the water department officials were framing him to hide their own mistakes as the valve was already broken and he just utilised the leaking water by diverting it to his fields.

Hira Lal has been booked under section 430, 353 for damaging government property.

Chief Minister Uttar Pradesh Akhilesh Yadav on Saturday met Prime Minister Narendra Modi for help in tackling the drought in the state. The Bundelkhand region is facing severe drought situation for the third year in a row.
