Bhopal: PM Narendra Modi takes part in an event marking the conclusion of 'Namami Devi Narmade Sewa Yatra', in Amarkantak.

The Sewa Yatra event is oraganised at Amarkantak in Anooppur district.



The awareness conservation campaign was launched on December 11, 2016 and will complete today after after covering a distance of 3,344 km and passing through over 1,100 villages and towns.

On the visit of PM Modi high tight security has made in the zone.



Madhya Pradesh CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan said the awareness campaign would be started again from July 2 wherein saplings would be planted on the banks of Narmada, flowing across various districts of the state. "A large number of saplings would be planted alongside banks of Narmada on both sides. An effective system would be evolved to ensure the security of these saplings," he said.

The government has also conducted a drive against liquor shops within five kilometres of Narmada's banks.

Various prominent leaders like Tibetan spiritual leader Dalai Lama, Bharatiya Janata Party President Amit Shah, Union Ministers Rajnath Singh, Uma Bharti, Anil Madhav Dave, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and well-known water conservationist Rajendra Singh, among others will took part in the yatra in its different stages.



Narmada flows over a length of 1,312 km before draining through the Gulf of Khambhat into the Arabian Sea.

The Narmada, also called as Rewa, is one of only three major rivers in the country that flows from east to west. The other two are Tapti and Mahi.

It is the third longest river that flows entirely within India, after the Godavari, and the Krishna.

It is also known as "Life Line of Madhya Pradesh"
