Tamil Nadu: DMK MLAs evicted after violence, house adjourned till 3 pm

Chennai: After the House was reconvened at 1 pm, the DMK MLAs were expelled by the Speaker for their earlier unruly and violent behaviour. The DMK MLAs protesting this expulsion and are refusing to leave.This is the second time the Assembly has been adjourned during the special session that was called to conduct a floor test. Earlier, the House was adjourned till 1 pm after a violent outburst by the DMK MLAs who demanded a secret ballot and deferment of the floor-test.

Earlier today, the legislators turned violent, damaged chairs and tables, and reportedly rounded up the Speaker. In the milieu, the Speaker adjourned the house till 1 pm and left. Earlier, the Panneerselvam camp demanded a secret ballot while DMK demanded postponement of the trust vote. However, both the demands were rejected by the Speaker.

The floor test is a ground for Tamil Nadu Chief Minister E Palaniswami to prove his majority government. Palaniswami, who was sworn in as Chief Minister on February 16, was given 15 days time by Governor C Vidyasagar Rao to prove his majority. However, he decided to seek the vote of confidence on Saturday.
