Former Lok Sabha Speaker P A Sangma passes away

images (66) Tahlka news Bureau, New Delhi : P A Sangma died of a heart attack at his Delhi residence.He was 68.Purno Agitok Sangma was born on 1 September 1947 in village Chapahati in the picturesque West Garo Hills District of the State of Meghalaya in North East India. Sangma served as the Speaker of Lok Sabha from 1996 to 1998. He was also the Chief Minister of Meghalaya from 1988 to 1990. He was a co-founder of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and remained a member of the Lok Sabha for 8 terms. In January 2013, he had founded National People's Party. He was currently the Lok Sabha MP from Tura (ST) constituency in the West Garo Hills district of Meghalaya. Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan said, "We deeply mourn the passing away of PA Sangma ji, I had learnt how to run Lok Sabha with a smile from him". Lok Sabha adjourned till March 8 after paying tribute to PA Sangma.
