Goa minor rape case accused MLA Monserrate, gets bail

Panaji:�MLA Babush Monserrate was on Wednesday granted bail by a local court in a case involving the rape of a minor.

The Panaji district session court ordered 53-year-old Monserrate to deposit a personal surety of Rs 1 lakh.

The court also ordered bail relief to the victim�s mother and Rosy Ferros, while ordering them to deposit Rs 25,000 each.

Babush and the two women have been ordered to appear before the Goa Crime Branch for the next seven days.

All three have been ordered not to leave the state for the next two months and not to tamper or cause hindrance to the investigation or interact with�the victim, Monserrate�s Advocate Rajeev Gomes said.

The MLA and the girl�s mother, who allegedly sold the girl to the MLA for Rs. 50 lakh, were arrested on Thursday last week. The mother�s accomplice, Rosy Ferrol, was said to have �brokered� the deal.

MLA has been accused of raping a 16-year-old girl, who was his former employee. He was�arrested on May 5 and had spent 13 days in custody.
Monserrate was expelled from the Congress on charges of anti-party activities after the Panaji Assembly by-polls last year.
