North Korea's ballistic missile landed in the economic Sea of Japan

New Delhi: North Korea has launched another ballistic missile towards Japan as part of a recent test-fire as the North works to build a nuclear-tipped missile that could reach the United States, South Korean officials reported on Monday.

The news came while America was celebrating its national independence from North Pentagon province, the South's joint Chief of Staff said in a statement.

Last week, South Korean President Moon Jae-in and US President Donald Trump in their first meeting discussed North Korea's development of atomic weapons that can threaten both the allies.

Japan's government reported that the missile had hit Japans' exclusive economic zone in the Sea of Japan but no damage of ships or aircraft in the area has been reported.

China's UN ambassador, Liu Jieyi warned on Monday that further escalating in the already high tension with North Korea is in risk of getting out of control, "and the consequences would b disastrous."

The South Korean Peninsula was divided between the American-backed South and the authoritarian North since the 1950-53 Korean War. Situation became alarming after North Korean leader, Kin Jong Un announced to expand its nuclear arsenal and develop ballistic missiles that can carry nuclear warheads.

After the June 8 test fire of a new cruise missile that Pyongyang says is capable of striking US and South Korea warships "at will".

Moon, took office on May 10 and has since tried to improve strained tried with North Korea, but the North has continued its missile testes. However, Pyongyang says it needs to work on nuclear weapons and other powerful missiles to outsmart the US military.
