ISLAMABAD: Career diplomat Themima janjua became the first women foreign secretary.
The Foreign Office said that "Janjua will repalce outgoing foreign secretary Aziz Ahmad Chaudhry. "Tehmima Janjua will assume the post of Foreign Secretary in the first week of March 2017," FO said.
Earlier, Abdul Basit Pakistan's High Commissioner to India was reported as the front-runner for the coveted post.
Tahmima was presently serving as the Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nation is Geneva.
"She is a second diplomat with a career spanning over 32 year," Foreign Office says.
Tehmima Janjua holds a masters degree from Quaid-e-Azam University, Islamabad and Columbia University, New York.
