Managua:A team of scientific explorers from the National Geographic Society is planning to film a documentary on a lava lake in Nicaragua's Masaya volcano, which has shown an increase in volcanic activity since last December. National Geographic asked permission from the Nicaraguan government to make a documentary film about the Masaya volcano, located 23 km southeast of the capital Managua, to document the "magical place", according to Rosario Murillo, the coordinator for the government's Communication and Citizenship Council. "They have asked permission to do the shooting in the Masaya volcano with a team of explorers, scientists and filmmakers to safely produce a video," EFE news reported on Monday citing Murillo. The Washington-headquartered scientific non-profit organisation is now coordinating with the Nicaraguan Institute for Territorial Studies to arrange the visit to Masaya National Park, one of 78 protected areas in the country. National Geographic wants to introduce "the extraordinary lava lakes of Masaya" to the world, Murillo added. (IANS)
