MUMBAI: A special TADA court is likely to pronounce its judgement of the second leg trail in the 1993 Mumbai serial involving seven accused including gangster Abu Salem.
The attack which left 257 people dead, 713 seriously injured and destroyed properties worth Rs 27 crore.
The first leg of the trail was concluded in 2007 in which the TADA court convicted 100 accused in the case, were only 23 were acquitted
The trail of the seven accused - Abu Salem, Mustafa Dossa, Karimullah Khan, Riyaz Siddiqui, Tahir Merchant and Abdul Quayyum were seperated from the main case as they were arrested at the time of conclusion of the main trail.
Samlem was accused of transporting weapons from Gujarat to Mumbai.
Actor Sanjay Dutt, whom was an accused in the case for illegal possession of weapons like, AK 56 rifles, 250 bullets and some hand grenades at his residence on January 16, were also delivered by Salem. However, two days later on January 18, 1993, Salem and two others went to Dutt's house and got back two rifles and some rounds.
The court dropped charges against Salem in 2013 after the investigating agency CBI moved a plea, saying those charges were against the extradition treaty between India and Portugal.
Mostafa Dossa, matermind of the attack landed explosives including RDX in India and sent youth to Pakistan to acquire arms training.
The hearing in the case begain in 2007, it was delayed as three petitioners were pending with the Supreme Court, one each filed by Dossa and Salem, and another by CBI.
The resumed in 2012 and concluded this March.
The case was first was fist head by Judge Pramod Kode, who had also delivered the judgement in the first leg of the trail and convicted 100 accused and acquitted 23 in 2007.
Later, Judge D U Mullah presided over the TADA court, and the case is now being heard by judge G A Sanap.
During the 2013 trail, the Supreme Court ordered a judgement on appeak field by all the accused wherein key conspirator Yakub Menon's death sentence was conformed, he was executed on July 30, 2015 while that of others (all bomb planters) were commuted to life imprisonment.
Sunjay Dutt and many others surrendered brfore TADA court here in 2013 after the apex court ubheld their conviction.
On March 12, 1993 the country witnessed the horrifying terrorist attack when a series of 12 bomb explosions took place one after another.
This was the first ever terrorist attack in the world where RDX (Research Department Explosive i.E cyclotimethylene trinitramine) was used on such a large scalre after the Second World War.
The blast took place at Boby Stock Exchange, Katha Bazar, Luky petrol pump near Sena Bhavan, opposite Passport office near Century Bazaar, Fisherman's colony at Mahim Causeway, at basement of Air India Builing, Zaveri Bazaar, Hotel Sea Rock, Plaza Theater, Centaur Hotel (Juhu), Sahar Airport (Bay no.54) and Centaur Hotel (near airport).
