A politiocal turmoil in Nagaland: ruiling party DAN shifts base to Assam along with 40 MLAs

GUWAHATI: The Democratic Alliance Party (DAN) have shifted around 40 of its MLAs to a camp in a resort in neighboring Assam.


Political turmoil was triggered in nagaland by the oppositions protest over 33 per cent reservation for women in urban local bodies (ULB) which has become a full blown political crises. The issue has casued discomfort to Chief Minister TR. Zeliang.

Nagaland Tribes Action Committe (NTAC), which is spreading movement against 33 per cent reservation, is insisting on the resignation of Zeliang.

Since January 28 government offices are non-functional in Nagaland.

MLAs of DAN coalition have backed Dr. Shurhozeie Liezietsu, president of Naga Peoiple's Front (NPF),for the Chief Ministership.


However, the former Chief Minister and Lok Sabha MP from Nagaland Neiphiu Rio, in a sudden change, has entered the scene and around 40 MLAs "signed a letter" backing Rio For the Chief Minister ship.

Zeliang had taken over as Chief Minister from Neiphiu Rio.

Rio entered national politics in 2014 by winning the Lok Sabha seat but was later expelled from NPF.
