New Delhi: After 15 long years , Congress has maked an era of rule in Manipur on Wednesday when BJP leader Nonghthombam Berin Singh was sworn in as the state's chief minister in Imphal.
National Peoples Party's MLA Y Joykumar Singh was sworn in as the deputy chief minister at the Raj Bhawan in Imphal.
Manipur governor Najma Heptulla invited Singh yesterday, and was elected unanimously as the leder of the 21-member BJP legeslature party, to form a government.
This is the first time the BJP has come under power in the north-eastern state.
The invitation came to Singh after four members of the Naga People's Front , an NDA ally, met the governor and declared their support to BJP for governemnt formation.
Evrn though the BJP came at second place with 21 seats and the Congress emerged as the single largest party with 28 seats. Manipur saw a hung up verdict in state assembly election.
Saffron Party led by Berin Singh was too quick claim to form the government with the support of 32 MLAs in the 60-member assembly.
