New Delhi: Two civilians were killed in central Kashmir's Budgam district on Tuesday and several others were injured when security forces battling militants opened fire on a group of stone-pelting protesters, police said.
A gun-battle between militants and security forces were on in the Chadoora area, a police official said. Medical superintendent of Srinagar's SMHS hospital, Nazir Choudhary confirmed the two deaths.
One of the killed civilian was identified as Zahid Rashid Bhat, 22, the sole earning member of a family with six sisters. He was brought to the hospital with bullet injury in his neck, said Dr Choudhary.
Another youth Saqib Ahmad died after doctors failed to revive him even after surgery.
According to SMHS medical Superintendent, two more youth undergoing operation are stable.
Several civilian deaths have been reported during encounters between militants and security forces in the restive state in recent times and come against the backdrop of army chief Bipin Rawat warning people attacking security forces during anti militancy operations.
