New Delhi: Congress senior leader Digvijay Singh has been removed as its in-charge of Goa and Karnataka, which is scheduled to have polls next year.
Lok Sabha MP KC Venugopal will take is appointed as general secretary of the party and take charge of Karnataka, where the Congress is hoping to retain power. Party secretary A Chella Kumar was given the charge of Goa.
Furthermore, general secretary Madhusudha Mistry was also removed from the post and was appointed in member of Congress' central election authority that oversees internal elections.
The move can be seen in response to the loss Congress had in Goa during the by-election. It was roughly a month ago when Sigh was blamed for delaying government formation in Goa despite the Congress emerging as the largest party.
The BJP was successful in cobbling together a coalition and chief minister Manohar Parikar returned as the Chief Minister of Goa for the fourth-time and for which he even "thanked" Singh for enabling the saffron party-led government.
