Chennai: Election Commission on Sunday night cancelled the bypoll of Tamil Nadu RK Nagar assembly constituency which was scheduled to be held on April 12. The decision came after the raid by income tax snoop on actor SarathKumar and TN Health Minister C Vijayabhaskar over buying voters in bypolls. EC said cancelling by poll in RK Nagar seat which was vacant from the death of J Jayalalithaa in December 5 last year.
Former Union Minister finance Minister P Chidambaram said 'We are told demonetisation has put an end to black money. was money distributed in RK nagar white money?'.
AIADMK deputy general secretary TTV Dinakaran als slammed EC for cancelling bypoll in RK Nagar said "This is a wrong decision, even the Election Commission does not want me to win. They can delay but cant deny,".
Beside this expelled AIADMK MP Sasikala Pushpa supported EC decision. "This election was not being handled in a fair manner that's why the Election Commission intervened. Constitutionally it has been proved that our democracy is alive," she said, adding, " I appreciate the EC's decision. It has been proved yet again that India is the largest democracy."
Income tax snoop reveals near about Rs 89 crore for distribution to voters in RK Nagar Assembly constitution from Vijayabhaskar premise. Its been saying that there are several complains over money distribution by AIADMK Amma faction.
EC said bribing voters is a non cognisable offence, will be punished by fine or up to a year in jail or both.
