New Delhi: An explosion took placed at Khayam Chowk of Srinagar on Sunday, ahead of the Srinagar and Anantnag parliamentary constituencies by-polls. The by polls are scheduled to be held on April 9 and 12 respectively. While in Jammu & Kashmir police has said that the situation is now under control as the low-intensity blast hit Srinagar's Khanyar due to mishandling of teargas canisters.
While, earlier in the day militants open fired at a crowd where a People['s Democratic Party (PDP) leader was addressing a rally in the Anantnagar district of Jammu & Kashmir. According to sources, the security forces immediately sealed the area and the search is on to nab the militants.
The incident took place in Achabal town of Anantnag district. Though no casualties
have been reported so far. Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti condemning
the act said that anyone who takes law in their own hands will be dealt with
strictness. "Whoever might be, anyone who takes law in their hands or threatens
will b dealt with strictness," Mehbooba Mufti said.
The meeting was chaired by Jammu and Kashmir minister for Consumer Affairs and Public Distrubition Chawdhry Zulfikar Ali, who remained unaffected and later concluded peacefully, a police official said.
According to the officials at the site, the militants fired only a few
shots to scare the voters but flead the scene due to the heavy security by
police and security personnel. A search operation is currently in to track down
