New Delhi: Around 20 lakh poor families will get free Internet connection in Kerala. Others will get Internet services at a lower rate, said Finance minister TM Thomas Isaac in his Budget speech in the state assembly.
Optical fibre-cables will be laid parallel to the KSEB lines to provide Internet for all. The network will be introduced in 18 months. Rs 1,000 crore will be invested through Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board.
The Budget has announced Rs 549 crore for IT. Rs 10 crore has been earmarked for technology innovation. Rs 70 crore for startups. Kerala state IT mission will get Rs 100 crore.
Twelve parks have been announced in the Budget to raise status of state as IT hardware hub.
