Chennai: On notification of prohibition of procurement of animals for the slaughter houses by the Central Government on Tuesday, the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court has been banned. While hearing a PIL filed in the court, a division bench of Justice M.V. Murali and Justice T. Kartikeyan has ruled. Significantly, a notification was issued by the Central Government on May 23, after which it is being opposed in the whole country.
Recently, in the state of Kerala, Youth Congress workers were reported to have cut a cow in protest against it, after which the entire political atmosphere was heavily heated.,On this decision of Central Government, CM Pinarayi Vijayan of Kerala also said that this decision of the central government is suppress of the freedom of food and rights of the states.
In the case, during the hearing in the court, the lawyers representing the government has said that the purpose of the notified notification was too brought only control the animal markets. In the PIL files against center, it has been said that the right to eat is someone's personal right and can't be interfered in.
After hearing both sides, the court after banning the center's notification asked the court asked reply from central and the state government within 4 weeks.
