Thruvananthapuram: Today, parents of Jishnu Pronoy, dragged on the streets for containing a peaceful protest seeking justice for their son. Jishnu Pronoy,an engineering student who was found dead in his hostel room in Thrissur recently, the UDF has called a hartal in Kerala on Thursday. Cops came under fire after relatives alleged that Jishnu's mother, Mahija, was assaulted during a standoff between both parties in front of the police headquarters (PHQ) in Thiruvananthapuram on Wednesday. Malappuram by-polls starts from April 12.
Top cop Loknath Behra, who visited Jishnu Parnoy's mother in the hospital after the clashes said,"This should not have happened… There will be an enquiry and I cannot comment without getting a report".
Police personnel were shown 'dragging' away the protesters even as screams of help were heard in the TV footage. Jishnu's mother was also seen falling to the ground as police blocked the protesters at the PHQ. A couple of women cops raising her from the ground, moved to a waiting police van. She have complained of uneasiness and was shifted to the hospital.
Relatives of the family have alleged that Mahijia was assaulted by the cops. Jishnu's uncle said the police manhandled her, while Jishnu's father said the 'treatment was cruel'.
The protesters tried to block the vehicle of director general of police,Thruvananthapuram range, Manoj Abraham was also stopped by the protesters. He urged the protesters to maintain peace and that the police will listen to the grievances of Jishnu;s family and was only against the holding of the dharna in front of PHQ due to security reasons.
Jishnu Pronoy, was a first-year student at the Nehru College of Engineering, in Pampady in Thrissur district, and was found cold blooded, hanging in bathroom of the hostel in January after the college authorities allegedly harassed for copying in the examinations.
