Mumbai Airport Customs seized 2.355 kg of gold worth Rs 70,65,520

Mumbai: During intervening night of AIU, CSI Airport, Mumbai made seizure case of 1307 grams of assorted Gold Jewellery and 1048 grams of 09 foreign marking gold bars collectively weighing 2.355 Kgs valued at Rs. 70,65,520. The gold items were wrapped with black coloured tapes, were recovered from a dustbin of gents washroom located opposite conveyor belt no. 5. They said gold materials have been seized on the reasonable ground that the same have been brought by the passenger(s) with a view to smuggle into India illegally.



On viewing CCTV installed around belt area, some of the suspects have been identified and steps to face them with inquiry have been initiated. It appears that sensing the strong presence of AIU officers at ground belt area, the suspects might have dropped the seized items in the said dustbin unnoticed by anyone. Case against some unknown persons have been registered. Further investigation is in progress.
