New Delhi: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Wednesday raided the house of Prannoy Roy, the co-founder of New Delhi Television (NDTV) channel, in New Delhi and Dehradun for allegedly causing loss to a private bank.


The CBI ha registered a case against Roy, his wife Radika and RRPR Holdings for allegedly causing a loss of Rs 48 crore to ICICI Bank, CBO sources said.


The agency is carrying out searches at four places in the national capital and Dehradun. A seven member CBI team has been at Ray's Greater Kailash (GL) I residence in south Delhi since 8 am.


"This morning, the CBI stepped up the concreted harassment of NDTV and its promoters based n the same old endless false accusations," NDTV said in a statement.


It said that NDTV will fight these forces tirelessly against this with-hunt by multiple agencies. "We will not succumb to these attempts to blatantly undermine democracy and free speech in India. We have one message to those who are trying to destroy he institution and everything it stands for: we fight for our country and over these forces," it said.


Rajaya Sabha MP Dr Subhramanian Swamy, who last year wrote letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, accusing NDTV of money laundering, said ; "Fear of law is necessary and it should be applied no matter who you are."


He had filed a case under Prevention of Corruption Act.
