NTAC: Democratic Alliance of Nagaland (DNC) has lost the moral right to govern

GUWAHATI: The ruling body in Nagaland has been slammed by Naga Hoho, the Apex Board of Naga tribes stating that the Democratic Alliance of Nagaland (DNA) must step down for it has lost the moral right to govern.

Nagaland is currently going under a bandh called by the Nagaland Tribes Action Committee (NTAC) demanding the resignation of Chief Minister TR Zeliang and his cabinet. Nagaland has been on a boil since the tribal bodies have opposed the 33 percent reservation for women in the urban local bodies (ULBs).

The Opposition government has trained guns on the DNA government and stated that the state assembly must be dissolved and fresh mandate must be sought.

Genral Secraretary of Naga Hoho, Mutsikhoyo Yhobu stated, "When visionary and just leaders govern there is justice however when unscrupulous, power hungry and corrupt people rule the government becomes blind and deaf to suffering and cries of the people."

The Organisation added, "The present government of Nagaland does not listen to the voice of the people, can treacherously betray its own commitments made in the presence of our highest scared institution and goes to the extent of taking the lives of the son of the soil.The Government has lost the moral right to govern the people and it should gracefully step down if the leaders have any conscience."

After two persons were killed on January 31 following clashes between the protesters and police the state is witnessing indefinite stir bringing functioning o standstill. Volunteers of tribal organizations have blocked the main gates of the government offices on Monday.

Prohibitory orders under section 144 CrPC imposed since the night of February 2 in some areas of Kohimia continue to remain in force while mobile data service is still not functioning for the last five days.

Governor of Nagaland PB Acharaya had meets with tribal bodies to resolve the ongoing crises. Nagaland Chief Minister TR Zeliang has called for a Consulative Meet with all tribal Hohos on Wednesday to discuss the various problems and issues arising out of the ULB elections in the state and to discuss how these issues could be resolved amicably.

Another meeting will be held seperately on February 9, by Kohima with other Naga Hoho, Central Nagaland Tribal Council (CNTC), Eastern Nagaland People's Organization (ENPO) and All Nagaland Gaon Burah (village headmen) Federation .
