Bhubaneswar: In support of the Bar Council of India, the Odisha State Bar Council today observed a wide cease work stir protesting against the proposal Advocates' (Amendment) Bill – 2017 by the Law Commission of India (LCI).
As part of the protests, lawyers across the state refrained from court and burned the report copy of the Law Commission in front of courts at their respective districts.
In Salepur, the lawyer's association staged a demonstration and burnt the report copy of the proposed bill in front of the Salepur sub-judge court. The Jharsuguda Lawyer's Association also staged a demonstration and submitted a memorandum to the district Collector addressing to the President.
In Rayagada, all lawyers of the district joined the case-work stir and staged a demonstration whereas the Bhadrak Lawyers' Association took out a protest march to the court.
The Odisha State Bar Council has also planned to organize a nationwide convention on April 20 at Bhubaneswar in which representatives of different state bar council, High Court Bar Association will participate to discuss on the report and decide on the future course of action.
