New DELHI: The Punjab police in collaboration with the Air Force and the Army on Tuesday conducted a massive operation both inside and outside the air base after the security agencies received a terror input from the Intelligence Bureau (IB).
Also, SWAT teams have been pressed into service and security in the adjoining district of Gurdaspur was also put on a high alert.
Guradaspur SSP Jasdeep Singh ordered setting up of security check posts on tHe Pathankot-Amritsar road-via-Dinanagar and Gurdaspur.
According to the sources the two ,ilitia group who attacked the Dinanagar police station on July 27, 2015 and the Pathankot air base on January 2 last year had made their way into the country through the international border in the nearby Bamial sector falling in Pathankot district.
Air force stations insiders say that after today's IB alert, fighter jets and other "high value assets" were the first things to be secured.
"They are being protected as per norms. Beyond this, we can disclose nothing," said a spokesman.
Pathankot SSP Nilambari Jagadel Vijay was leading the search outside the premises. Inside the air base premises the air force had deployed special guards. More than 8,000 employees were in the complex.
Sops at the Dhaki road market were also searched.
Dhaki road market is a heavily populated area located right in front of the main gate of the base. The flyover on the Pathankot-Jalandar road is also here and it gives a bird's eye view of the goings-on in the base.
"We have marked the fly over as hyper sensitive," said the SSP.
