New Delhi: The RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat in firm reply to roumers about his name being proposed for President said, "Whatever is being spread by the media will not happen," said Bhagwat. He said he works for the Sangh Parivar and even if the proposition reaches reaches him, he will not accept it. "Sangh maein kaam katre hain, hamein wahan jana nahi.Prastav aata bhi hai toh swikar nahi karna," said Bhagwat.
On Tuesday, Sanjay Rawat Shiv Sena MP proposed Bhagwat's name for President after Pranab Mukherjee. He said that it would be great to see him as the President,if India has to be made a 'Hindu Rashtra'.
While talking to the reporter's, Rawat said,"It (President) is the highest post in the country. Somebody with a clean image should occupy it. We have heard, Mohan Bhagwat's name is being discussed for President,If India has to be made a 'Hingu Rashtra', Bhagwat will be a good choice for President. But the decision (to support his candidature) will be taken by Uddavji."
The Congress today said it did not support Shiv Sena's suggestion as it "opposed the saffron ideology". The party added that they would come forward with its candidate after holding internal discussions.
"It is very clear that we do not support RSS ideology," Congress spokesperson Gaurav Gogoi told the reporters when asked if the party supports Sena's suggestion.
When asked whether they will move beyond the party politics and give their suggestions for President's name, Gogoi said, "When it comes to appointing our President.. at the right time , we will. of course, have our own internal discussion first and then announce the nominee."
President Pranab Muklherjee is due to retire on July 24 this year. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be hosting a dinner for all NDA MP's this Thursday, to seek their support for the NDA Presidential candidate.
