New Delhi:�A �girl was severely injured after a speeding Santro hit her in east Delhi's Madhu Vihar.
The girl, Poonam, lay on the crowded road for 20 minutes before a passerby called the police.
She was rushed to a hospital. Poonam is said to be in a critical condition, police said.
The driver is yet to be arrested. Locals said the incident happened around 5pm when Poonam, a resident of Hasanpur village, was returning from a tuition.
The vehicle comes from the opposite side at a high speed and dodges a rickshaw.
However, instead of driving straight, the driver takes a sudden left turn towards the side of the road and hits Poonam. She is thrown into the air and lands on the car's bonnet, and later falls on the road.
The driver, �stepped out of the vehicle to check Poonam`s condition. He was caught and thrashed by the locals, but later managed to escape.
Police said that the man has been identified and efforts are being made to nab him.
A case has been registered against the driver.
