Supreme Court to conclude Singur land case

Kolkata:�Singur land case,�Supreme Court will conclude on Wednesday when both Bengal government and Tatas get the opportunity to present their arguments before Justice V Gopala Gowda and Justice Arun Kumar Mishra.

Tata challenged the Singur Land Rehabilitation and Development Act, 2011, of the Mamata Banerjee government, the Calcutta high court stated it unconstitutional, giving a verdict in favour of Tatas. Hence, the Bengal government filed an SLP.

During the hearing, Justice Gowda mentioned that agriculture land can be acquired for industry, but it is better to avoid mutli-crop land.

Justice Mishra observed that that Singur plot was acquired for Tatas, though it was meant for 'public purpose'. Abhishek Manu Singhvi, counsel for the Tatas, said that the land was handed over to Tatas in 'public interest'.
