Lucknow: Curfew imposed in UP Lakhimpur district later on Thursday late night 165 km away from UP capital Lucknow following communal tension and some incidents of violence and arson after an objectionable video shot by two youngsters, went viral, Police has arrested 3 BJP leader for provoking riot in the district, Massive Police Force have been deployed in the city. Entire district has been declared red alert.
According to official sources, the two young men, who were believed to have shot the video on Wednesday, were arrested by Kheri police and sent to judicial custody. Prior to their arrest, the police had picked up their fathers from their Maharajnagar residence in Kheri town. While confirming reports of tension, the Kheri administration denied that incidents of violence have taken place.
"There is tension but violence has not been reported from anywhere so far," said District Magistrate Kheri Akash Deep, while talking to media representatives on Thursday night. The District Magistrate said two persons had shot a video making objectionable comments against deities of a particular community. "They have been arrested and sent to jail," added the District Magistrate.
Earlier, tension gripped parts Lakhimpur Kheri as people of a community forced the closure of shops and thronged the district police station demanding that the accused persons be handed over to them. Sources said that both the accused persons, after circulating the video, had fled to Kanpur from where they have been arrested.
"The two youngsters were arrested and the Magistrate arrived at the police station to take them under judicial custody before the situation could turn ugly," said police sources, adding that an irate public was later pacified by district authorities though tension prevailed.
However, there were unconfirmed reports of stray incidents of arson and shooting in some areas of Lakhimpur Kheri.
"The district administration is on high alert and police patrolling has been intensified to avoid any untoward incident," District Magistrate Akash Deep added.
